Teen Pregnancy

Teenage pregnancies in American have decreased over the years. According to the studies, there were 60 out of 1000 young women who gave birth in 1991 and 51 out of 1000 gave birth in 1998.

Yet teen pregnancy rates in the United States are at the level that is considered high. It has been approximated by Women’s Health Channel (WHC) recently that 1 million teenage girls experience pregnancy every year in the US alone with 5 % of the girls giving births. The approximation by WHC was based on a study that also included the figures that showed that in 1997 at least 13% of the births in the US are of teenage girls.

The baby and children that are out of teen pregnancy are prone to health risks and are very likely to experience social and emotional problems. Socioeconomic consequences and before that an increased risk for complications such as premature labor are commonly associated with teenage pregnant girls.

Teen pregnancy commonly results in smoking and drinking tendencies of the pregnant girl, underweight babies, and poor eating habits of the teenager.

Pregnant teenage girls usually do not seek proper medical help, which lead to a bigger risk of medical complications. Education (specifically in nutrition and complications of pregnancy), understanding, and medical care are all which a pregnant teenage girl should seek.

Depression is commonly suffered by pregnant teenage girls and as in worst cases, they may even need the help of a psychologist.

The support and love of the close family members and friends will greatly help pregnant teenagers.
